My aggressive journey to say a few words. (AKA) I'll be saying stuff that won't matter to many of you but it'll ALL mean something to me.
what makes each one better?

First up in my comparison is Justice League.

The old one's had more characters and stayed with their true powers. I guess you could say the same for Super Friends and those other older groups like that.

Where as, the new Justice League only has Flash, Superman, WonderWoman, GreenLantern (bad choice for Green Lantern too), Martian Man Hunter (horrible depiction of him), Hawk Girl (why couldn't they keep Hawk Man?), and Batman (I can't really complain much except to say that he's not the leader for some reason in the new Justice league).

Next up is Teen Titans.

The old one's had an awesome Cyborg and they looked serious when they faught.

The new Teen Titans are a joke. Cyborg is a clumbsy, stuborn, muscle bound, dork. Of course, Robin is the leader, like he deserves. The dynamic duo are always the leaders. It's an unwritten rule.

Now, Scooby-Doo.

The old one's were made when the clothes they wore were in style and the people actually acted like them some what. Scooby and Shaggy did all the work even though they didn't on "purpose".

Now the clothes are out of style, momentarily, and people don't really act like that anymore. Now Freddy's plans actually work every now and then.

How about we move to The Transformers? I'm gonna include Beast Wars just because it's in line with the Transformers idea. It's just that Optimus Prime is an ape.

The old Transformers... well, they kicked butt because the idea was ahead of it's time.

The new Transformers... well, they still kick butt because they keep pushing the Autobots (good guys) and Desepticons (bad guys) further into the future the further we move into it.

Transformers is just a great show and looks like it will be for a long time to come.

Speed Racer is up next.

Basically, this is the old anime that started america's addiction, IMO. With the cool action scenes and choppy voice acting, you just have to love the Japanese for bringing this annoying, but fun, cartoon to us.

The new version isn't much more smooth or action packed but the gadgets are a bit more "modernized".

How about some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

I know we all at least loved the old one. Why? Because it's just simply briliant! Whoever came up with the idea was a geneous. I think that's enough said.

The new stuff though... that's a different story. The new TMNT is too drawn back because of the violence issues we have in the United States. They just can't kick butt as hard as before. It's a pitty we had to ruin such a great thing...

He-Man is my last comparison for now.

The old He-Man was so cool because a small kid gains super human powers just because he has a sword and "The power of Greyskull!" Kinda always reminded me of Captain Marvel, but anyways... He would always go in and kick some butt with his brute strength and just about always succeeded in doing so.

The new He-Man kept most of that in mind but then tried to make it even better by making the artwork just simply great.

I'm just gonna talk about some "new" shows that are also "old" one's now.

First, is Power Rangers.

The show started out so well too. The big dynosaur robots that combined to kick big butt. What's better than an acted out form of Voltron? I'll tell you... a lot of things once you suck the idea dry in less than 2 years...

Now, we have the Ren and Stimpy type cartoons...

These things are so weird, maybe that's why they're so loved. But all I can really say is that I never really like these kind of cartoons because they didn't belong in my christian boy mind. I was still too fragile when these shows started coming out.

How about some anime? I don't if I shoudl call it new or old because most of it's new for us and old for Japan.

Gundam (put your ending to the name in as you like. I don't have time to write them all down)

Gundam is so sweet! Just think about it. It's a huge war fought in unbelievably agile giant robotic suits. These things each have unique strengths and weeknesses and each one is so awesome to watch do it's thing.

Dragon Ball, Z, GT

Good times. What is this cartoon's claim to fame, you say? It's, nearly, unarguably the greatest action cartoon ever. TMNT may be close, but that's only in America.

Sailor Moon

I might as well include these schoolgirl hotties. Someone mentioned them in my last article so why not make it easy on this person this time?

Sailor Moon just seems like too much a girlie attempt to be kick butt, that turned into a -dare I say it- porn cartoon. If only you knew what I have to sort through to find a good site about anime cartoons...

Alright, I think I've taken up enough time now. If you want me to voice my opinion on another cartoon you feel deserves to be mentioned, among these quality cartoons, then go right ahead. I'm just gonna warn you. If I don't like it I'm not going to be to nice to you for bringing it up. I'm a geek, and you don't fool around with a geek's interests. People have been killed for less. LOL

Actually, I'll have to disagree with you on the current state of anime, Zoo and Joseph.

You have to understand that anime is to Japan as hollywood is to America. Anime is a staple in the Japanese culture, coming from the ancient art of manga, which is now produced en masse in magazines like Shonen Jump, Magazine Z, or Gekkan Dengeki Comic Gao!. The unfortunate side effect of american reproduction is the fact that there will be spill over from different genres of anime. So you can have an awesome action thriller (Chrono Crusade, Gundam SEED), a love story ( Marmalade Boy, Urusei Yatsura), a horror classic (Demon Lord Dante: Dante Resurrects, Devilman), and porn all placed in the same category at your local FYE or Tower Records.

Actually, Captin, Gundam is a staple of the anime variety in Japan. Currently airing is a show called Mobile Suit Gundam SEED X ASTRAY, a kind of plot expanding type of sequel to Gundam SEED. There are plenty of Gundam productions that mainstream America has never have even heard about (Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Mobile Suit Gundam 0080- War In the Pocket, Mobile Suit Gundam 0083- Stardust Memory, Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team, After War Gundam X, and Turn-A Gundam) to name just a few. In fact, Gundam Model making is so mainstream in Japan that they've come up with a word to describe it's easy building snap-on process. The word is Gunpla.

I read the American version of GTO, Qoo3, and personally I didn't like it much. It's interesting, of course, but not really my type of story. RoD (Read or Die), is one of the animes that I want to get a hold of. Even though the premise is far-fetched, the story seems to be an excellent one. If you want a good example of an anime that might help your views of it as being fighting and porn, check out KaleidoStar or Azumanga Diaoh. These two animes defy the american definition of anime.

Geek to the 5th power! Of course, that's not saying much, considering my username has to deal with a Magic the Gathering card.

Peace

I'll chime in on the ones that I have an opinion on, at least... mostly comic related shows (and I'll stick to the order you mentioned them in, for simplicity).

1. Justice League - I'm unsure of what Justice League cartoon you're referring to here. Super Friends? (Probably not, as you mention that show in the next sentence.) The Super Powers Team? (That was just a continuation of the Super Friends cartoon, apparently.)
Anyway, to address your criticisms of the current show: The comic book version of the Justice League, up until recently, had only contained the "big guns" of the DC Universe. The Big Seven: Supes, Bats, Diana, Wally, Kyle "GL" Rayner, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter. Each of those characters had their own book, with the exception of MM (most of the time), but he was included because he has been on (nearly?) every incarnation of the team since inception (especially taking Crisis/Zero-Hour/retcons into account). Even JLA Detroit! This, plus the fact that one can more easily focus on character development with less characters (helloooo GIJoe comics), was probably what led the creators to focus on the "core team" aspect.
As for the actual make up of the team: I think the depiction of Martian Manhunter is pretty spot on (I'm curious as to your specific complaints here). I don't recall large stints of time when Batman was the leader (chairman) of the League (and recall other periods of time when he swore he wasn't a member at all). And I think the choice of John Stewart over Kyle Rayner (rookie) or Hal Jordan (dead), and the inclusion of Hawkgrrl over Hawkman were probably based on diversification of the team (although I've read the creators statements that say it wasn't so).

2. Teen Titans - I had been unaware that there had been a previous incarnation of this cartoon. (I feel pretty ignorant at this point.) (This seems to indicate that there was only the thought of having an animated series, tho: Link ) The only place I had seen Cyborg before was as the token-black-deus-ex-*ahem*machina-man in the Super Powers cartoons that stemmed from the Kenner toy line Link , and of course from the Superfriends cartoons before them (apparently, a continuation of the series Link ). As to what Cyborg has "become" in the new series, one must keep in mind that the current Titans show is fairly anime-influenced (although it's pretty "Japanese-American" "anime," with decent helpings of manga-stylings as well). I'm not really seeing huge out-of-character issues with the way he is behaving, based on how I've seen him in the comics. He *is* stubborn, and often had problems with his cybernetics (addressed several times in the new show). As for him being a "dork"... because he plays video games? Doesn't get out and play much? And here we are, discussing cartoons.

3. X-formers - You like Armada?

4. TMNT - I haven't seen the new version. The old cartoon version was... too cartoony. The comic *was* genius, tho.

5. He-Man - Yes, sure, Captain Marvel. Of course: He-Man<-Captain Marvel<-Superman (especially the Max Fleischer cartoons)<-Pop-eye. So... He-Man<-Pop-eye, IMHO.

Sorry the last few comments were so short, and the first were so long... You can probably tell which shows I care more about, tho.

Actually, I would really like more said. What is this Samurai Pizza Cats you speak of?

OMG!!! Capt. you mean you've never heard of the Samurai Pizza Cats????? You know of every other cartoon, but not this one?? Gosh I thought I was the only one who's ever seen it untill Muggaz brought it up. I haven't watched for a really long time. And when i say really long time, i mean like when i was at least 7 or 8. But i guess if i remember right, it's kinda like TMNT. But it's different in ways. I can't really say a whole lot about it but that's because i have vivid memories about it.

Ok, lets talk about CareBears!! . Even though I'm a really big fan of CareBears, i haven't really watched it lately. For one, they don't air it on T.V. anymore.

The older CareBears were a lot better than the newer ones. I mean sure you still have all the same characters and everything, but it's not the same anymore. In the newer ones the added a crap load of new characters and it's harder to keep up with which one's which and what powers they have. I mean why can't they just keep it simple?! Especially for slow people like myslef! . Stupid people!! hehe.

The most memorable thing about Samurai Pizza Cats (ran for one season 1991)-- is the theme song - 11years later it's still in my head.
on Jun 28, 2004
Hummmmm..... i didn't know it only ran for one season, so maybe i was younger than 7 or 8. .

Humm...I'm looking for a pic Capt. I'll send it to you when i find one. ~carebear~

Actually they were translated to english in 1991 but were screened in America in 1996. And Agro's Cartoon Connection in Aus was playing them in grade 6....(1993 - muggaz correct me) or grade 9....

Polly: I was so worried about pizza toppings, I never realized the spice of my inner feelings for him... and now, he's heading straight into the deadly comet, and I may never have the chance to tell him how I feel... oh, to stroke his fuzzy whiskers... I love him so!

on Jun 29, 2004
Ah, that's more like it. I thought i was around 7 or 8 when i watched them. In 1996 I would've been 7, so i was right. lol.

Pseudo~ I have to hand it to you. You seem to like your cartoons (comic ones) as much as I do. Maybe a bit more. I just might not have enough to even compete with you, but this is my subject so I need to comment.

Were you saying He-Man is the same thing as Popeye? That's crazy. Crazy but, strangely, very true. I never thought of it like that. I mean I always thought that He-Man, Hercules, Superman, and Mighty Mouse were insanely alike. Just not Quite as much Mighty Mouse as the others.

I don't really have any way to show you any old shows that you don't remember but I am pretty sure they exsist. I may have the wrong names for the shows, but I'm pretty sure I got them right too.

Yeah, I'm glad that they are atleast using similar characters, all around, in most of the new shows. There's a few exceptions but not much.

As for my choice of Green Lanterns. I think that just about any of the other Green Lanterns would be better because they are just about all more experienced. But it's being displayed like there's only one Green Lantern, and that he is the best guy around...

I just thought I'd ask... Have any of you gone to see the cartoon network orbits site with the game on it? I'm sorry but I'm addicted now. I'm trying to make a deck out of Justice League Characters. It's not coming along very fast.

I have. And I'm pretty sure you knew that by now. Yeah it is kind of addictive after awhile. So, trying to make a deck of Justice Leauge? I really haven't decide what I want my deck to consist of yet.

All these cartoons and no one metioned the Smurfs?!!! Wow!
on Oct 11, 2004
How about the Marvel heroes? I used to watch them from Monday til Friday. But that was way way back when cartoons weren't as animated as they are now..
on Oct 24, 2004
I think it's time for some others to read this article and see what they have to say. Most of the people that reply to my stuff aren't on here yet so...

Spider-Man... have you seen the "new" cartoon? It's horrid. I guess it's suposed to be in the future or something like that where Venom and Carnage are the big baddies and they are on a team. It looks horrible and it is such a bad try at a updating the look that it makes you want to cry.
