Ok, so, I'm heading off to band camp next week, along with carebear, zoologist03, death by beebles, and well... us. I just thought I'd explain a bit, what band camp is like for my school. It may be different for others, but this is the jist, I guess.
Alright, so you pac up all of your clothes, toiletries, candies, and other happy making items. We all get onto the bus and head off to our "camp grounds".
When we get there, we go get our keys to the rooms, and find the rooms. You have a small amount of time to go unpack, when the band director (let's name her... Ms. Meyer, for name purposes) comes to get us to a short practice, and then to eat.
After eating, Ms. Meyer, allows a few hours for us to settle down (play games in our rooms) before coming around to make us close our doors and lock them. Now, you must understand that closed door do not specifically state that we have to be in bed, asleep. Merely, that we don't leave the rooms we're in.
The next morning, at about 6 o'clock, we all get ready and go to meet for our trip to breakfast. Of course, the first day, all the guys want to compete to see who can eat the most, but that soon becomes a thing of the past when we/they puke it all back up throughout the day.
So, now you're done with breakfast, and you're moving onto morning practices. This is when everybody is still somewhat asleep and can't keep their lefts from their rights. We stand out side marching for about... oh, I'd say 3 or 4 hours. This is also the time in which most of the "funny" injures acure.
Down, you're half way throught the day. Pat yourself on the back. Now, we have lunch time. Most people are either feeling better or worse, and eating accordingly. Typically, I'm one of the guys who are feeling better so I'm eating a lot, and of course, a whole heck of a lot more than just about everyone else. You may get some good stories to tell from this, but most likely not.
Now, on to the evening practice... this is the easiest and shortest practice of the day. It's about an hour or so long. Not long, but it's the hardest practice, because it's the "review" time of the day.
After we finish up the evening practice we get to go our own seperate ways for a few hours and then meet back up for supper. This meal is most likely to bring you good stories to tell when you get back home, of all the meals.
After supper, it's time to go relax for the rest of the night. I mean, this when you get to go play cards, watch t.v., and all of those other things like that. That last couple of years that was the guys time to play RPG's. It was the girls' time to talk about which guys they like'd. Basically, the guys did their thing, and the girls did theirs. Of course, there are those few exceptions to which people are "relaxing" because where would you get the "...one time, at band camp..." stories if someone didn't go and do... well, you know what kinda stuff I'm talking about.
This is pretty much the schedule all week long until Thursday, the day before we leave. Thrusday is the day of the dance and to be honest, it's not exactly fun. This year I'm one of the seniors deciding what we're doing for everything, so I feel like this is going to be a bit better than the previous years, mostly because of Alex (beebes) pushing everyone to do everything for our "senior moments" as soon as possible so they'll all be a good as possible.
I really want to tell you what we're doing at the dance, but there's only two seniors in our group of band members in the school here. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I will say, this one is not your typically scenario for a dance... hehe! After we all get back I'll tell you all what happened and what it was like.
Friday is our last day at band camp, and the shortest. All we do on Friday is show what we've learned so far during band camp, then we pack up and leave... end of story.
Well, I guess it's only right that I share my most embarrassing moment at band camp, since everybody LOVES to hear these things anyways.
Alright, so, last year we just got done marching outside, and it was the hottest day of the summer up to this point so everyone was just about dead on their feet afterwards... Actually, we weren't even done yet, we just couldn't go anymore without stopping for a little bit. Anyways, you know how sometimes there's "fences" where there's a chord spanning two posts and if you step on one side the other side go up? Well, usually someone stands there and waits untill everybody else is off the field before stepping off of the rope. This time someone DID do that but someone else thought it would be more funny if they were to get on the other side and bounce the person, standing on it, off. Maybe I'm just bad luck but I was running to jump the rope at a slightly higher point, when, as I was jumping, the evil person stepped on the rope and made the rope go up a couple of inches before I even had time to react.
So, picture this... guy in the air, jumping over rope... Another guy "lifts" rope higher as the first guy approaches... first guy, yells when sees the second one lifting the rope... first guy doesn't make it over rope, completely... first guy spreads his arms out and falls onto the blacktop below, face first.. again, first guy yells... second guy begins to worry about first guy... second guy, then, decides to laugh at first guy... first guy jumps off and runs to shade, in which the rest of band is heading... second guy runs past first guy to tell everyone what happened... first guy arrives to find everyone laughing at first guy.
Yeah, I gues it was kinda humorous to see my big butt hit the ground hard like that, but I think that laughing about it for a whole year is just a bit much.
I doubt many of you have band camp stories, but if you do, or if you just have an embarrassing, adolesent, moment please share...
Capt. over and out!
